Yes, the Swanson household is a ZOO in more ways than one!

BEN
Our best buddy Ben has moved onto a better life with the angels.  We really miss him.  He lived to 12 in people years and 70 in dog years.   He is a Golden Retriever mix.  We brought him home from the Humane Society.  He loved his ears scratched and loved his bones.  Visit Ben's web page for more pictures.

COPPER
The newest addition to our family is Copper.  He is a pure breed Golden Retriever.  We brought him home from a breeder near Jackson Michigan.  He was born on August 15th and has been growing like a weed ever since.  On 12/9/02 he weighed 38lbs.  He's very playful, but can be quite a handful at times.

FISH
We have many fish in a 20 gallon fresh water aquarium.  We have 2 scum suckers (Chicken Nuggets), 2 snails, and various other assorted species.

FRED
We bought a tadpole some time ago not knowing what we were getting into.  It was neat watching him grow into a full grown frog.  However, he grew a bit more than we expected.  The pet store people said we needed to put him in his own tank or he would eat the rest of our fish.  Now he has his own tank and a continuous supply of crickets.

HAMSTERS
Santa brought 2 hamsters this year.  They have been given about one hundred names a piece - the girls just can't make up their mind.  The fun part about having hamsters is changing their habitrail tubes and watching them try to find their way around.  Sometimes they get in fights - Santa didn't know that they are solitary animals.  So, we bought them an extra large cage so they have plenty of room to hide from each other.

Update: One of the hamsters had an unfortunate encounter with Edie.  Now we have one hamster.
Update 2: The other "mommy" hamster, had an encounter with old age.  Now we are down to just dogs & fish.

EDIE
Update: Edie had to go to a new family.  She is now living with a family in the Chicago area.  The family already had 4 male greyhounds and they were looking for a "tough broad" that could hold her own with the boys - Edie was just right.  We love her very much and miss her a ton!  Good luck in your new home Edie.

And our new addition to the family is "Edie".  For some strange reason we have decided to adopt a Greyhound from one of the local racing greyhound rescue organizations.  We love her.  She is a very gentle and sweet girl.  She's still getting used to the tight quarters of household living, so she's still a bit clumsy.  She's always bumping into something or knocking something over.  Mostly this is pretty funny to watch.  She will be five years old in May.  She raced for three years and has been "retired" for about one year.
